Today I was surrounded by absolutely gorgeous clothes that are part of the collection that Threads of Red will be offering when the online store launches in the very near future! What a privilege it was getting a sneak peek of these and being able to photograph them being worn by the owner’s beautiful children! For now I am just sharing a very small sneak peek so that there are lots of surprises when Threads of Red open! Thanks L, I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

A bit about me …

August 15, 2010

I thought it would be good to share a little more about myself, something I don’t often do!

Well … I grew up in Yeppoon, what an awesome town (-: My favourite subjects through school were IPT and Art, with Photography being my main interest, even back then! I was lucky enough to attend a school with brilliant art facilities and a darkroom and more importantly had a great art teacher, Mrs Bancan. She put in so much time and effort with her students and we had loads of opportunities that many students did not. Following high school I attended Central Queensland University, studying Primary Education specialising in Early Childhood for two years until I decided that wasn’t the path I wanted to head in. I changed over to Multimedia and completed a Bachelor of Multimedia Studies. From here I gained employment in a Multimedia Unit at Central Queensland University, working in Distance Education. Again I was lucky enough to have a boss who was super supportive and encouraged us to push the limits and try new things, Leonie Power. I really enjoyed working in that group, in my role as Multimedia Designer/Project Manager. I also completed a Bachelor of Education (Professional) during my time there. My interest in Photography was still strong, and was the reason I had gotten into the Multimedia Industry in the first place. I was lucky enough to complete a couple of different photography courses during this time.

Following this we moved to Moura, after having our first child. With the isolation came lots of time to concentrate on studying photography. Over the next 3 years I concentrated on learning as much as I could about photography, lighting, processing, business and products. I also spent a lot of time portfolio building to ensure I was of a professional standard prior to beginning my business. Then came our second child (-: I had the opportunity of completing an online natural light course and then also attended a workshop with specialists in lighting and commercial photography. These workshops were a turning point for me in my photography, along with the networking with other photographers, I learnt so much. As you could imagine, living in Moura I have not got a business network local so thoroughly appreciated all that I was offered during this time.

In the last 12 months my business has grown steadily, with my dreams coming closer! I now have a space in town where I can display all the products I offer, hold ordering sessions and give clients and potential clients the chance to view my gallery of work. I am an emerging member of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers) and am also a member of other bodies. I can offer a professional service to clients, with a range of products available. The best part of my job is getting to know my clients, and watching them grow as the years go past and more importantly capturing beautiful memories of these years. Thank you to all my clients who have supported me so far and I look forward to the ride ahead!

An interesting read …

I recently read this publication and believe that it is a brilliant way of educating the public about the costs involved in providing professional photography and the differences in quality and why. Check out http://www.professionalchildphotographer.com/information/?page_id=16 to read “Why Does Custom Photography Cost More?” if you are interested.

A little while ago I had the pleasure of capturing some images for use in a new business beginning in Central QLD, Acres Rural. A combination of rural, grain, cotton & cattle, among other things, I thoroughly enjoyed this artistic opportunity! Head over to http://acresrural.com.au to check out the images and also check out what this new business could offer you. Wishing you all the best in your ventures!
